Element Symbols
Some students in class asked why some elements had symbols (abbreviations) that were not using any of the letters that were in the name. For example, Potassium has a symbol of K, Sodium has a symbol of Na. WHY???? If you can find out, please EMAIL me so that multiple people can respond for extra credit. I will post on here what students get the extra credit and will put the answer on here by Monday.

Hi, Mrs.PErez I was just looking on google trying to figure out why was the abbreviations were the letters that were not in the word on the Periodic table bu I was not very successful in finding that information.
ReplyDeleteTrinity,
ReplyDeleteIf you search for "abbreviations for elements" you should be able to find it. I saw the answer under the wikipedia page, although you will have to search around for it a bit to actually find it. Keep looking!
